Return of the Black Madonna Wins Best Director & Best First Documentary at PAIFF

Return of the Black Madonna, directed by Kerra Bolton, was awarded Best Director (Documentary Short) and Best First Documentary at the Puerto Aventuras International Film Festival.

In its official remarks, the festival described the film as “a deeply personal and culturally resonant documentary short” and highlighted Bolton’s “fearless storytelling and first-person approach” as elevating conversations around healing and reclamation.

Return of the Black Madonna explores Black identity, migration, and spirituality through an intimate lens, marking Bolton as a distinctive voice working at the intersection of personal narrative and cultural inquiry.
